While these “B-Grade” tires often have checking between the lugs and/or light scuffs on the sidewall, they are still guaranteed to hold air and work great for farm and off-road use.
Most tires will still have varying amounts of a lubricant on the inside, a byproduct of the 16.5 VFI rubber runflats that many of these tires originally came equipped with (but were removed prior to going surplus). The easiest way to remove this water-soluble lubricant is to first use a soft plastic putty knife or thick cardboard to scoop out the majority of it, which can then be followed up with a nylon scrub brush and mild soap and water to remove any remaining residue.
